Since the inauguration of Donald Trump, we have witnessed historic uprisings in the United States. Across the country, people have come together as allies, refugees, migrants, and travelers to oppose enclosure, taking to the streets and shutting down airports.

As partners in a policy of enclosure, Israeli companies are bidding to construct Trump’s proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall. Netanyahu himself tweeted in support of the plan, relating it to Israel’s apartheid wall in Palestine. Trump has also expressed his intentions to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, threatening to spur Israel’s annexation and ethnic cleansing of the city. And what might be most accurately framed as Israel’s 70-year ban on Palestinians has created one of the largest refugee diasporas in the world: The Palestinian refugee population, who today number over 5 million, and still live in refugee camps across the Middle East as a direct result of Israel’s continued ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people since 1948.

As we call to unfreeze the US refugee resettlement program, we also insist on the right of Palestinian refugees to return home. Refusing further construction of U.S.-Mexico border walls, we also refuse ongoing construction of Israel’s apartheid wall in Palestine, and the occupation it sustains. And in rejecting a “Muslim ban” in the U.S., we also reject Israel’s annexation of Jerusalem, and the systematic erasure of the city’s Muslim heritage. We, people from all places and of all faiths, do not accept a world of enclosures, prisons, and bans.

God’s message to us is that we are the Beloved Community and that each of us is a part of it, whether we are in Jerusalem, Palestine, or the United States. As “A Christian Voice for Palestine,” FOSNA knows that the Beloved Community cannot and will never be united by hating the "other," separating from "strangers," or banning the "foreigner." The only way to unity is by loving God with all our hearts and by loving our neighbors as ourselves. “There is no commandment greater than these.”

Let's make our message loud and clear: No Ban, No Wall also means #Jerusalem4All. Help us as we join together with Jewish Voice for Peace, American Muslims for Palestine, and the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights to #BuildMovementsNotWalls.
