On Wednesday, May 15, hundreds of people in the United States will gather at Israeli consulates, host actions, or meet with their congressional representatives in Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco, Houston, Rochester and Miami. Marking Palestinian Nakba Day—when over 750,000 Palestinians were exiled from their homes by Israel in 1948—concerned people of faith, clergy, and laity are heeding the call of Kairos Palestine and its partners around the world, by delivering the Global Kairos for Justice statement.

The statement calls on the government of Israel to “end the occupation of Palestine immediately; restore full and equal rights of and end discrimination against Palestinian citizens living in Israel and between all inhabitants of the land; [and] respect the right of return of Palestinian refugees.”

It has been more than 70 years since the Nakba, yet Palestinians continue to live under military occupation, siege, second-class citizenship, and exile. The call from Kairos Palestine comes at the 10-year anniversary of the Kairos Document — a guiding proclamation by Palestinian Christians representing a broad spectrum of organizations, faith communities, and other groups — that asks people the world over to take action in solidarity with Palestinians.

Reverend Diane Dulin, co-convener with of the Clergy and Seminary Action Council, stated, "as people of faith, FOSNA calls on people of conscience everywhere to join us in demanding that the Israeli government end the siege and occupation and grant Palestinians the space and right for their own self-determination."

###

May 15 marks the anniversary of the Nakba. Global Kairos for Justice, a partner of Kairos Palestine, asks the world to support its call to action, to sign the petition, and to be partners in local and regional events on or around May 15, 2019. As the prophet Isaiah wrote, “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed.” (Isaiah 1:17) As a solidarity organization, we honor those who stand in faith-based conviction in the face of oppression. I invite you to honor them by joining this global campaign by Kairos Palestine. On the 71st anniversary of the Nakba, join us in delivering to Israeli consulates the Kairos petition demanding that Israel end its occupation and recognize Palestinian rights.
